My Book
My book, "Old Sweet" History and Questions, is a different kind of history book.
In the case of history, there are oftentimes more than one ideas/stories concerning the
history of a place or person. "Old Sweet" doesn't give you just one history story and leave it
at that. Wherever there are questions or more than one story - I have put them all in
the book so you can learn about the various stories or ideas that go with this wonderful,
majestic, and historic National Landmark. After you read this book, you will want to
visit, tour, and learn more about what makes Sweet Springs such a special place. Order your copy today.
About the Author
I was born in 1964 at the old Ronceverte Hospital in Greenbrier County West Virginia. My father was in the Air Force and stationed in Spain when my mother got pregnant with me. They left just before I was born so there would be no issues with my being an American Citizen.
5 years and 4 days later my brother, Zernie Fielding Miller was born in Virginia as mom was working as a bookkeeper for the federal government. Civilian workers could only rank to E-4, but mom was promoted to E-7. 13 years and 4 months later my youngest brother, Kellis Dean Miller, was born.
Mom raised us alone as she and my father divorced, and we lived a very poor life. We always had love, and food because we raised garden and worked up meat for people. At 18, I was shot with a 12-guage shotgun at 20 yards - the wadding severed the main artery in my leg. I had dual colostomy bags and was one of the first to have a total reversal. It took me 4 years to be halfway normal again, but I fought hard and did things the doctors said I would never be able to do again. I could have taken disability and spent the rest of my life sitting on my butt, however that was not the way I had been taught. I went back to work, and to college - carried 21 hours and worked 2 jobs. Later I obtained my PhD.
in 1981 I married Randall Lee DuPre (we are still married) and after my injury was told I would never be able to have children. In 1996, our son, Okie Lee DuPre was born. He was taken 3 weeks early to prevent any major problems and was born perfectly healthy. Okie is now married and has bought his own home.
Sweet Springs, "Old Sweet" is a project I am attempting to help restore - as a volunteer - and the history here is so fascinating that I had to write a book about it. "Old Sweet" History and Answers is my second book - the first being a beginner's guide to Sustainability as this is our only secure way to the future.
My hobbies are: horses - training, riding and loving; raising dogs & cats; hiking; camping; writing; and interior decorating.
